Our film is illuminating the attack on Libraries nationally, initially through the lens of what is currently taking place in Huntington Beach, CA, as these actions are becoming more commonplace across the country. Beginning in early 2024, Huntington Beach City Council passed ordinances rendering the HBPL Librarians pointless by removing 100 children's books deemed to be pornographic or inappropriate, and passing an ordinance to politically appoint a civilian Parent/Guardian Book Review board to challenge and censor the Children’s/YA book collections according to their taste, and to gate keep any future book acquisitions. The conservative majority has also proposed privatizing the library as a means to further erode professional librarian influence on collections and services. Four senior librarians have resigned, following the initial, public  resignation of the Principal Librarian. This is an ongoing story as the newly elected City Council board is now 7 conservatives - and no longer a 4-3 majority.
